For as long as there has been money, there have been people looking to grift it from each other by any means necessary. In modern times, that's meant mail scams, phone scams, and door-to-door shenanigans that exploit naive and vulnerable people. 21st century technology has opened that door to different platforms, namely social media.
For some reason or another, India seems to have become a hub for Facebook scams. Profiles belonging to, or pretending to be, Indian men and women will reach out to strangers via Facebook Messenger.
